VERSUS

VERSUS – An exhibition of one-of-a-kind football shirts inspired by iconic club shirts from across the decades.

20 designers from across the country have been asked to re-design 20 iconic football shirts to create a unique exhibition that will be taking place in Glasgow during the Euro2020 championships.

The purpose of the exhibition is to raise funds and increase awareness of United Glasgow FC, an anti-discrimination football team and community project who represent all of Glasgow, regardless of background, ethnicity, sexual orientation or financial position.

It is also our goal to promote design to the wider public and showcase the creative talents and abilities of the participants. VERSUS is a unique event, created to appreciate and celebrate the best in design, drawing people from studios big and small together to celebrate the ability and expertise of the Scottish design industry.

The shirts created for the exhibition will be produced and then sold along with exhibition catalogues and posters which will be designed to reflect each of the iconic shirts that the designs take inspiration from.

The shirts, posters and catalogues will be available to buy during the duration of the exhibition. The shirts designs will be revealed and be available for pre order in spring 2020.

United Glasgow FC

Since 2011, United Glasgow FC has welcomed players from over 50 countries and currently makes football accessible and affordable to almost 200 players across our four teams and other sessions. United have players of all genders, sexual orientations, religions, ethnicities, socio-economic positions and immigration statuses.

United have two guiding principles, anti-discrimination and financial inclusion. By keeping costs to an absolute minimum and not charging players for games or training the club manage to bring together individuals from communities who would otherwise probably never have met through a shared love of football.

The club are proud to provide a space that is welcoming and inclusive, and have created an education and campaigning arm to the club to this effect, as well as encouraging players to train and play with respect of their teammates, officials and opponents.

United Glasgow Football Club is engaged in many networks for inclusion in football, in the UK and across Europe. The club are active members of the Football Supporters Europe Anti-Discrimination Division, participants in the Mondiali Antirazzisti in Italy and partners of Show Racism the Red Card, Football V Homophobia and others.

The inspiration

Each kit has been chosen due to it’s iconic status, either through being worn by an iconic player, being worn at an iconic moment in footballing folklore or being a ‘classic’ design.

The kits formed a starting point to inform the design and provide a jumping off point for each designer to create a unique design of their own.

Each designer was randomly allocated a club/kit and the project was approached as if designing for that team. They researched each club and kit history and using this as the inspiration produced a series of 20 unique and individual designs.

The exhibition

The exhibition is temporarily postponed. A new date will be released in due course, please follow us on social media to keep up to date with the kit design releases and pre-order information.
